GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUES NEWBORN ABANDONED IN PARK

A German Shepherd in Birmingham, England is being hailed a hero after discovering a newborn baby who had been abandoned in a park.  Sixty-eight-year-old Roger Wilday was walking his 9-year-old German Shepherd, Jade, in the park last week when the dog suddenly ran toward some bushes and laid down next to a bag. After Jade refused to return to Roger, the grandfather-of-five went over to investigate and found a newborn inside the luggage.  Wilday called the police and the baby, believed to be only 24 hours old, was taken to the hospital, where she is now recovering well. Doctors say the baby girl, who was likely in the park about 30 minutes, probably wouldn’t have survived much longer in the elements. She has since been named Jade after her four-legged savior.  The Wilday family believes Jade’s excellent hearing and love of children led to the dog’s heroic actions. "Jade’s never found anything before. She must have heard the baby crying as these dogs have very good hearing, plus she’s very keen on our [five] grandchildren," said Roger's wife, Catherine Wilday. "Whenever she hears their names she whimpers. She just loves kids.’’
